Rice University Sewall Hall

Rice requested handicapped access to the third and fourth floors of the north tower of Sewall Hall. This renovation included a new stone ramp, elevator, interior partitions, flooring, finishes, accessible toilet rooms and associated mechanical, electrical and plumbing renovation. We were also required to retrofit a three-stop elevator into the existing Sewall Hall. The most challenging part of the project was aiding the structural and mechanical engineers in overcoming the existing conditions to allow the elevator to be installed in a very abbreviated schedule. This project was completed on schedule in four months.
